TESERO, Italy (AP) — Outside the Olympic cross-country stadium in this Dolomite mountain town, Norwegian flags have been draped over the railings like bunting on a national holiday. Fans from the Scandinavian country have set up camp nearby and kept a live tally of medals won by their athletes at the Milan Cortina Games.

On the penultimate day of the Milan Cortina Olympics, plenty of medals were up for grabs. Saturday was another historic day for Team USA, which will leave Italy with its most Winter Olympics gold medals ever.

TESERO, Italy (AP) — Norway’s Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo completed his historic gold medal sweep of the men’s cross-country skiing events on Saturday by winning his sixth race and setting the record for the most golds by one athlete in a single Winter Olympics.

Skjevdal's biathlon mass start victory gave Norway a Winter Olympics record 17th gold medal on Friday. No country has ever won so many golds at one Games, with Norway bettering their own mark of 16 golds from the previous edition in 2022 in Beijing.

Johannes Klaebo won all six cross-country skiing events at this year's Winter Olympics, the surpassing Eric Heiden's five golds in 1980.

The competition will return to France for the first time in 38 years, with the country hosting the last Winter Games in Albertville in 1992. It will be the fourth time the Winter Olympic Games have been held in France.
